WR Jahan Dotson reveals who he wanted Commanders to draft with No. 2 pick

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

It was a decision that was expected by most and one that third-year wide receiver Jahan Dotson was hoping for.

"I don't know if I can say this, but that's the quarterback that I wanted," Dotson said, via Grant Gordon of NFL.com. "I was happy when we drafted him, I'm really looking forward to building a relationship with him, furthering our relationship, as I've known him in the past, but he's been good so far. He's only been here a couple days now, but he has big things coming for him."

Dotson has a right to be excited about teaming up with Daniels. The 24-year-old has played with three different starting quarterbacks since entering the league as the No. 16 overall pick in 2022.

He's confident his fourth quarterback can help take his game to another level given their previous relationship at Arizona.

"I've known him since I was coming out in the draft," Dotson added. "We were training together before he transferred to LSU, when we were down in Arizona. So, we built a little relationship there, and then I kept up with him while he was at LSU."

Dotson needs to take another step in his third season. He has just 84 catches for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two years.

However, if Daniels can translate his game to the next level, he should be able to help Dotson do just that.

The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

That has Dotson more excited than ever.

"I wasn't a fan of my season last year, so I went really hard at it this offseason," Dotson finished. "I'm starting to feel like I'm getting my swagger back a little bit, so I'm getting really excited."
